A biopsy is a simple procedure that involves removing a small sample of skin for examination under a microscope. It can be performed using a punch biopsy, a shave biopsy, or an excisional biopsy, depending on the type of lesion and the presumptive diagnosis. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, takes only a few minutes, and allows for the complete removal of small lesions during the same visit. The histopathological results, available in about a week, confirm or rule out the diagnosis and guide the definitive treatment.
